What HN said

What people liked

  • Fun, pretty and addictive puzzle game

    From 5 comments
    • The game is quite pretty, and fun for a minute, but it didn't seem to actually get more challenging as I played, and it got old quickly. And yes, the "oh yeah" is super weird.
      johnmaguire2013 on HN
    • This was really fun, and I loved the soundtrack. The suggestive "oh yea" message got old quickly though.

    • That game is amazing.

    • Addictive!
      elonmusk61 on HN
    • Pretty cool game! I had to stop playing after a while as people around me were starting to wonder where the "Oh yeaahh!" was coming from.

  • Reminds commenters of tangrams and the Talos Principle minigame

    From 2 comments
    • Reminds me of playing with tangrams as a kid. Surprisingly, still pretty damn fun.
      phobosanomaly on HN
    • reminds me of the minigame in "The Talos Principle", but there a significant source of complexity comes from the ability to rotate the pieces.

Objections

  • The 'oh yeah' voice clip sounds sexual or creepy and is uncomfortable

    From 5 comments
    • The "oh yeah" has a sexual intonation to it; it's perfect.
      crehn on HN
    • Agreed. It was less of a celebratory "oh yeah" and more of a moaning "oh yeah", which felt a little uncomfortable while playing a non-sensual game. There was a button in the…

    • "Ohhh yeahhhhhh" Help me, this game makes me feel weird inside.
      Der_Einzige on HN
    • The "oh yeah" is creepy as hell, disable it!
      mrlala on HN
    • That "ohh yeah" made me so uncomfortable.

  • Sound cannot be turned off easily

    From 3 comments
    • It would get unproductive but since you cannot turn the sound off, it stayed productive.
      rojcyk on HN
    • I too ceased playing because of the sound. Barely funny the first time or two, it was just irritating after that. (Yes, I know I could mute the site, but by then the appeal of…

  • Difficulty does not ramp up

    From 2 comments

    • Ya, I lost interest a few levels in when the difficulty didn't really ramp up. Maybe it does later?

  • Layout too large for small phone screens

    From 3 comments
    • It’s sadly a little too big for my iPhone SE :(
      saagarjha on HN
    • Same for my BlackBerry Key2, still playable but the top area is obscured
      SuperPaintMan on HN
    • Really I feel like half the challenge is that the whole thing is constrained to a tiny phone screen sized area and you can barely see what your pieces even are until you've…

  • Possible plagiarism of an earlier Treksit app and Powerblocks demo

    From 3 comments
    • About three months ago someone posted a netflify app called "Treksit", which was flagged for plagiarization: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=24050651 Both "Treksit" and…

      ismail on HN
    • Same UI, first two puzzles are exact same, and it's the person who was plagiarized in the first place (Tronix → Treksit). Yup, this another plagiarism.

Requests

  • Add piece rotation

    From 2 comments
    • The ability to rotate pieces would really increase the difficulty factor.
      jboggan on HN
    • I love it - can you add rotation so you can scramble the pieces when you start to make it more challenging?
      orliesaurus on HN
  • Add mirroring of pieces

    From 1 comment
    • And mirroring! Reminds me of those wooden games with just four pieces.

Questions

  • Who made the game and where are the credits for the game code

    From 2 comments
    • Great game, but I'm really confused as to who made it. I clicked nearly everything on the screen and couldn't see an author anywhere
      kthartic on HN
    • But this does not list any credits for the actual game... Looking at the websites sources the actual game-code (powerblocks.js) was apparently written in 2016 by Danijel…

  • Are the puzzles automatically generated

    From 1 comment
    • Not a very original concept. They use these puzzles for child intelligence tests. Are the puzzles automatically generated? What would be hilarious (imo) would be if the 100th…
